TEFL Org UK is delighted to announce Mary’s Meals as its Charity of the Year for 2017.
Mary’s Meals is a global movement that believes every child in our world of plenty should be able to receive one daily meal in a place of education.
By setting up and running school feeding programmes in some of the world’s poorest communities, Mary’s Meals attracts chronically hungry children to the classroom, where they can gain an education that can be their route out of poverty.
The charity currently reaches 1,187,104 children with a nutritious daily meal in school, across 12 countries, and is committed to spending at least 93p in every £1 directly on charitable activities.
Jennifer Hallwood, Managing Director of TEFL Org UK, explained the reasoning behind choosing Mary’s Meals –
“We chose Mary’s Meals as it was a charity based in Scotland, helping children in schools have at least one decent meal on school days. As an ex-teacher and parent I personally know how important this is for a child to be able to learn. And as a company we train many teachers who chose to go out and volunteer their services abroad. It felt a good fit with the vision and values of TEFL Org UK. Also it was important to us that as much of what we raised as possible did go to the children. With Mary’s Meals over 80% of money raised goes directly to aid those in need.”
As TEFL Org UK’s Charity of the Year, each customer will have the option to donate £1 to Mary’s Meals during the online checkout – with TEFL Org UK matching every donation.
